Art therapist understand the role of supervision as essential to maintaining good and safe practice and supporting self-care and professional growth. However, art therapists often take on a supervisory role without much or any training, relying mostly on their clinical skills to navigate the supervisory relationships. Whilst these skills are indeed useful in supervision, they fall short of what is needed when challenges occur that highlight the complexity of this multi-layered task.
These two workshops aim to develop participants’ confidence in their current or future supervisory work and strengthen their identity as a supervisor. They introduce a range of concepts and tools helpful to set up safe, effective and creative supervision, meet challenges when they occur and support good practice. They are suitable for all levels of experience in supervision, including experienced supervisors and practitioners considering taking on this role.
